For the past five years, the curatorial expertise of Mona Nicoară, the Artistic Director and co-founder of fARAD Documentary Film Festival, helped consolidate the profile of the festival. Starting with the sixth edition, Mona hands over the curatorship of the festival, and takes on new professional challenges. The intellectual and participative identity of the festival, the experimental and bold themes and programming, the quality of the filmmakers attending, and, last but not least, the launch and coordination of the fARAD Lab – all bear her mark.
Starting with the 2019 edition, fARAD’s Artistic Director is Dimitris Kerkinos, a reputed voice of the European film industry and an experienced documentary film curator. He joined the Thessaloniki International Film Festival in 1999, and since 2002 he is programming the Balkan Survey Section, presenting the most important films in the region; he's also Head of programming for the Documentary Festival since 2016. He has curated retrospectives and tributes to national cinemas and directors, including to filmmakers Alexandru Solomon and Mircea Daneliuc. He has edited and published numerous essays and monographs on cinema. In 2019, Dimitris was a member of the Jury for the Romanian Film Days at TIFF.
