Every Face Has a Name

On April 28, 1945, several ships brought into the Swedish port of Malmö hundreds of survivors of the Nazi concentration and extermination camps. Using archival footage and passenger lists, director Magnus Gertten tracked some of those survivors and revived for them the extraordinary moment when their lives began again. The complicated and emotional stories of the Jewish, Norwegian, American, or Polish prisoners are contrasted to contemporaneous images of refugees brought by the Mediterranean waves to the coast of Italy — a simple, poignant, and politically relevant artifice.
