In our Western world, the human nude is omnipresent from classical art to porn to hyper-sexualized advertising. In China, however, nudes are banned. Ren Hang, a young photographer, poet, and artist searching for his freedom and his artistic voice is literally stopped dead in his tracks by this taboo. Matching the creative dynamics of Hang with a contagious visual energy, this film pays reverent tribute to the striking but fulgurant career of an iconoclastic artist.
