A delicate documentary about a generation of boys and girls who grew up with absent mothers, economic migrants to Western Europe, seeking to provide for their families, after the Soviet Union’s collapse. A ritualized mail exchange took place: mothers sent money and goods, while children sent videotapes in return. This intimate home video archive was the material of this film, testifying to the painful gaps the absent persons left in the lives of those who stayed behind.
