The incredible but true story of a South Korean director, Shin sang-ok, and his partner, celebrated actress Choi Eun-hee, who were kidnapped by the North Korean regime separately, kept in detention and psychologically manipulated only to be reunited and used by Kim Jong-il as propaganda instruments. An ardent film fan, the dictator had sought them to start a film industry rivaling Hollywood. This John Le Carré-style thriller generated fascinating discussions about the relationship between film and propaganda.
