How did a group of factory workers become a phenomenal sports success story and the pride of a nation? The Witches of the Orient tells the tale of the Japanese women’s volleyball team’s thrilling rise in the 1960s, when they achieved the unbelievable, historic record of 258 straight wins, and eventually, the Olympic gold at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. An epic journey where we meet the former players of the Japanese women’s volleyball team, now in their 70s, known as the ‘Witches of the Orient’ because of their seemingly supernatural powers on the courts.
