This is a film about ideal living in an ideal country: North Korea. Director Vitaly Mansky spent a year following the assimilation into the political system of a girl provided to the crew by official handlers. Fragments of footage pre-approved and censored by the authorities combine with parallel footage smuggled out of the country to reveal the seams of a story scripted out of whole cloth according to the ideals of North Korean authorities — as well the disturbing traces of our own communist past.
